The Special National Convention is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the ‘A’ Class Event Centre in Wuse 2. Invitations signed by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, and National Organising Secretary, Theophilus Dakas Shan, described the meeting as a ratification of Jonathan’s nomination.
The move follows a series of internal steps by the Kabiru Turaki–led bloc, which recently cleared Jonathan as its sole aspirant after granting him a waiver during screening. The screening panel, chaired by former Niger State governor Babangida Aliyu, cited his previous experience as deputy governor, governor, vice president, and president.
Earlier in the week, the faction also conducted a presidential primary ahead of the ratification exercise.
A Federal High Court in Abuja recently ruled that Jonathan remains eligible to contest the 2027 election. The court dismissed a suit seeking to bar him, stating that the plaintiff lacked standing and that similar rulings from other courts had already affirmed his eligibility.
Following the judgment, the party faction described the case as an improper use of judicial process and said it removed remaining obstacles to Jonathan’s participation.
Jonathan, who served as president from 2010 to 2015, conceded defeat in the 2015 election to Muhammadu Buhari, a transfer of power widely viewed as historic at the time.
Despite mounting political pressure, Jonathan has not publicly confirmed whether he will accept the nomination or enter the 2027 race. In recent meetings with supporters in Abuja, he said he was still consulting and would not make a decision without wider discussions.
