Nigerian woman Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack is attempting to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest Bible reading marathon.
The challenge, titled "144 Hours in the Word," began on June 22 at Novotel in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and is scheduled to end on July 2, subject to Guinness World Records guidelines.
As of Saturday, Habibat had surpassed the 100-hour mark, moving into the final phase of the endurance attempt.
Videos circulating on social media show her reading aloud from the Bible at a lectern and desk, with digital timers tracking her progress as supporters cheer her on.
According to the organisers, the marathon is being conducted under Guinness World Records rules, which require continuous reading aloud while allowing only limited breaks for essential needs.
Habibat, a member of The Summit Bible Church in Port Harcourt, said the initiative is driven by her faith and aims to encourage greater engagement with the Bible.
Her Senior Pastor, Dr. Andy Osakwe of Summit Bible Churches Worldwide, described the attempt as more than a record bid, saying it is intended to promote God's Word and inspire believers.
The challenge has drawn support from family, friends and church members, while also attracting attention on social media amid the growing number of endurance-based Guinness World Record attempts by Nigerians.
Habibat's attempt follows the recognition of Nigerian **Samson Ajao**, who set the Guinness World Record for the longest marathon reading aloud. In 2024, the 27-year-old from Ibadan read continuously for 215 hours, surpassing the previous record of 124 hours set by Kyrgyzstan's Rysbai Isakov in 2022.
Ajao's achievement added to a series of high-profile Guinness World Record attempts by Nigerians, including Hilda Baci's widely publicised cook-a-thon.
