David Ekubo, a member of the family of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo, has called for clarity over the circumstances surrounding the actor’s death, insisting that the family is seeking answers rather than any claim to his estate.
In a statement shared on his Instagram page on Saturday, David questioned the events leading to Alex’s hospitalisation and death, asking who took him to the hospital, when he arrived, and whether he was still alive at the time.
“What happened to Alex? Who took him to the hospital? When did he get there? Was he alive when he got to the hospital? We want to know,” he wrote.
David dismissed suggestions that the family's concerns were motivated by inheritance, stressing that they only want the facts surrounding Alex's passing.
“My concern has absolutely nothing to do with Alex’s property. I neither know what properties he had nor am I interested in them,” he said.
He added that Alex was his father's only son and had no male siblings to speak on his behalf, maintaining that, as a member of the Ekubo family, he had every right to demand answers.
According to David, his concerns stem from conversations he had with Alex before his death, during which the actor did not appear to be seriously ill.
Recalling one of their last conversations, David said Alex switched from a voice call to a video call to dispel rumours that he had withdrawn from social media because of illness.
“He told me to look at him carefully and asked, ‘Do I look sick to you?’ From what I saw, he did not appear ill,” David stated.
He also questioned reports that Alex had been diagnosed with cancer, asking how the disease allegedly progressed from stage one to stage four within a short period.
“If Alex was diagnosed with cancer, how did the illness progress from stage one to stage four suddenly? We are not interested in fabricated documents or speculation; we simply want the truth and official records,” he said.
David further expressed concern over what he described as a blood patch on Alex’s left eye. He said he sought an explanation from Alex’s stepmother, who reportedly told him that “something had occurred” and that eye drops were already being used for treatment.
According to David, the explanation raised more questions than answers.
His statement has since sparked reactions on social media, with many users calling for greater transparency over the circumstances surrounding the actor’s death.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response to the concerns raised by David Ekubo.
