The Anambra State Police Command has taken a 33-year-old man, Ifechukwu Okechukwu, into custody over the alleged killing of his 23-year-old girlfriend, whose body was later secretly buried in Nkpor.

Police said the arrest followed information from members of the public and circulation of videos linked to the suspected crime. The remains were later exhumed in Nkpor, a community in Nkpor.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect is one of four individuals currently under investigation in separate cases involving homicide and child abuse across the state.

The statement said operatives also responded to a separate case involving a 10-year-old boy who suffered severe injuries in Odume Layout, Isiowulu. Three suspects — Chukwudi Chukwuyere, Chisom Chukwuyere, and a 16-year-old identified as Arum Goodluck — were arrested in connection with the incident.

During interrogation, Chisom Chukwuyere reportedly admitted to using burning plastic on the child, according to police accounts.

The Command said all suspects are being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Anambra State Police Command, as officers work to establish full circumstances surrounding the cases.

Police confirmed that the injured child is receiving medical care and support while evidence gathering continues for prosecution.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reiterated the Command’s commitment to enforcing the law and urged residents to continue reporting suspicious activity to security agencies.
