The Nenadi Usman-led faction of the Labour Party has announced Dr. Chibuzo Okereke as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The party said Okereke emerged through a consensus process involving party members and stakeholders. The decision was affirmed in Abuja on May 30, 2026, according to a statement issued by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa.
In the statement, the party described Okereke as a governance expert, policy strategist and advocate of institutional reforms with extensive experience in public policy and legislative governance.
Okereke is the President of ERGAF-AFRICA Legislative Governance Innovation and Policy Hub, a policy and legislative research institution. He also serves as a legislative consultant to committees and ranking members of the National Assembly.
The Labour Party noted that he is a resident lecturer in the Department of Public Policy and Administration at Miva Open University, Abuja, where he teaches courses related to governance and public administration.
According to the party, Okereke has gained recognition for his contributions to public accountability, governance and national development, as well as his engagement in policy discussions across national and international media platforms.
The statement further highlighted his academic credentials, including a PhD in Legislative Governance Studies and master's degrees in Public Administration and Legislative Studies.
The party said Okereke has also been involved in initiatives focused on youth development, education and democratic reforms.
It added that his record in governance and public policy aligns with its vision for accountable leadership and national development ahead of the 2027 elections.
