The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that the party has released the results of its primary elections in Enugu State.

Speaking to journalists in Enugu on Saturday, the party's National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan, said the primaries were successfully conducted on Friday, but no official results had been announced.

Morgan described the results being shared online as false and unauthorised, stressing that they did not originate from the party.

"The results of the primary elections have been duly collected by the party. However, contrary to several reports being circulated online, no official announcement has yet been made by the National Electoral Committee or the national leadership of the party," he said.

According to him, the primaries were conducted in line with the Electoral Act 2026, the party's constitution, and established internal electoral procedures.

The exercise covered nominations for key positions, including president, governor, Senate, House of Representatives, and Enugu State House of Assembly candidates ahead of the 2027 general election.

Morgan said members of the party's National Electoral Committee supervised the process after travelling from Abuja to oversee compliance with electoral guidelines.

He added that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitored the exercise, which was conducted through a direct primary system that allowed eligible party members to vote for their preferred candidates.

While collation and verification of votes have been completed, Morgan said the results remain with the appropriate party authorities pending official release.

He warned party members, supporters and the public against relying on information from unofficial sources, noting that any authentic announcement would come through the party's recognised channels after the completion of internal administrative and ratification processes.

The NDC secretary also assured aspirants that the party remained committed to transparency, fairness and due process throughout the exercise.

He said the names of successful candidates would be submitted to INEC after the completion of all required procedures in accordance with the Electoral Act and the party's constitution.

The clarification comes amid widespread speculation online following the conclusion of the party's primaries.

Earlier, the NDC adjusted its primary election timetable from 27 May to 29 May, citing logistical challenges linked to the Eid-el-Kabir public holidays. The party said transportation disruptions, including limited flight availability, informed the decision.

INEC has set 30 May as the deadline for political parties to submit their membership registers ahead of the 2027 general election.
