Bello El-Rufai, a member of the House of Representatives, has emerged as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Kaduna North Federal Constituency ahead of the next general election.

El-Rufai was returned unopposed in the party's primary election, polling 7,727 votes.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the lawmaker expressed appreciation to ADC leaders, delegates, stakeholders, and supporters for backing his candidacy.

“I am deeply honoured and humbled to emerge unopposed as the flag bearer of the African Democratic Congress for Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the just concluded primary election, with a total of 7,727 votes,” he said.

He thanked party members and residents of Kaduna North for what he described as a strong vote of confidence in his leadership.

El-Rufai, who is serving his first term in the House of Representatives, said he remains committed to representing the constituency and building on the work carried out over the past three years.

The lawmaker recently left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the ADC. Addressing questions about his political move, he said he had not maintained ties with opposition parties while he was a member of the APC.

“There is still honour in politics. I hope to embody it,” he said, adding that he would campaign actively for the ADC and its candidates.

El-Rufai won the Kaduna North Federal Constituency seat on the APC platform in the 2023 general election. He is the son of Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State.
