Gunmen have reportedly attacked an 18-seater bus and abducted an unknown number of passengers along the Sobe-Benin road in Owan West Local Government Area, Edo State. The incident occurred last Thursday.
Sources confirmed that among the abducted passengers were students. According to eyewitness accounts, the gunmen ambushed the bus from the bush, shot the driver, and forced the passengers into captivity. The driver was left injured at the scene before being rescued.
The kidnappers have reportedly contacted the victims’ families, demanding a ransom of N15 million per passenger for their release.
A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “The gunmen, upon sighting the vehicle, emerged from the bush, shot the driver, and kidnapped the passengers, leaving the driver in a pool of his blood.”
Reports indicate that social media influencer Verydarkman (VDM) intervened at the scene, rescuing the driver and taking him to a hospital for medical attention.
