Apprentice Allegedly Stabs Master to Death in Edo Over Teenage Girl
A tragic incident has rocked Ogiriga community in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, where a man identified as Johnson Sunday was allegedly stabbed to death by his apprentice, Udeji Bright, during a reported altercation over a teenage girl.
The incident, which occurred late Friday night on March 21, 2025, has thrown the quiet community into shock and tension. According to accounts shared online by a local resident, the confrontation between the two men escalated into violence around 11 p.m., culminating in the fatal stabbing of Mr. Sunday from behind.
The girl at the center of the dispute is said to be between 16 and 17 years old. Mr. Sunday, a trailer driver, had reportedly taken Udeji Bright under his wing as an apprentice before the disagreement turned deadly. Eyewitness reports suggest the suspect was quickly apprehended and is currently in police custody.
In the wake of the incident, unrest spread through the community, prompting a group of angry youths to set fire to a house believed to belong to the suspect’s father. Authorities are expected to launch a full investigation as residents call for justice and calm.
