APC Rejects INEC Report on Ondo Gubernatorial Primary, Vows to Forge Ahead
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has vehemently opposed the findings put forth by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alleging irregularities in the party’s gubernatorial primary held on April 20.
Expressing outright disbelief and labeling the INEC verdict as “shocking,” the APC has urged its members across the state to remain steadfast and resolute, emphasizing their focus on the forthcoming November 16 governorship election.
Following reports filed by INEC officials who monitored the primary election across the state’s 203 political wards, various irregularities were documented. These irregularities ranged from the non-arrival of electoral materials in certain areas to the improper collation of election results.
Amidst the unfolding revelations, the Publicity Secretary of the APC in the state, Alex Kalejaye, has accused certain factions within the party of orchestrating a scheme to discredit the entire electoral process.
Kalejaye clarified, “Elections were conducted in all 18 local government areas of the state. While there were some agitations in Ifedore and Ilaje local government areas, the results for Ifedore were nullified entirely, and those for Ilaje were affected in about four wards, leading to their cancellation.”
He further underscored that the cancellations were aimed at reaffirming the integrity of the overall process and ensuring fairness. Additionally, he emphasized that the voting strength of the affected areas was not substantial enough to undermine the credibility of the process or significantly impact the margin of victory for the APC candidate.
In light of these assertions, the APC has raised doubts regarding the authenticity of the report attributed to an INEC representative. The party has urged its vast supporter base to dismiss the purportedly baseless report and instead concentrate on the paramount objective of securing victory in the governorship election, thereby ensuring the continuation of APC governance in the Sunshine State.
