APC Reacts to Rumours of Deal Between Tinubu, NNPP in Kano Governorship Dispute
In a statement released on Sunday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) refuted claims of any collaboration with Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State or the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to influence the anticipated Supreme Court verdict in favor of the governor.
Following the decisions of the election petition tribunal and the Appeal Court, which declared Dr Nasir Gawuna of the APC as the legitimate winner of the March 18 governorship election in Kano State, Governor Yusuf has appealed the judgment at the Supreme Court.
The APC also dismissed rumors of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s involvement, asserting that there was no meeting or intervention by Tinubu in support of Yusuf’s continued governance and subsequent defection to the APC.
Kano State APC Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, stated in Abuja that the alleged agreement and reconciliation between NNPP and APC were baseless rumors. He emphasized that no deal had been made to compromise the expected Supreme Court judgment.
Addressing the speculation, Abbas clarified, “President Bola Tinubu is a democrat and strongly believes in the rule of law and the right thing to be done and therefore will not be part of any arrangement or reconciliation to subvert justice and support people who have stolen votes or breached the electoral act to emerge as leaders.”
He further expressed confidence in the peaceful atmosphere in Kano, despite efforts by NNPP to incite political unrest. Abbas affirmed that the APC was unaware of any such arrangement and would focus on pursuing its case at the Supreme Court diligently.
The Kano State APC Chairman concluded optimistically, stating, “Our party would emerge victorious at the Apex Court, especially from the concrete and convincing evidence presented at both the tribunal and the Appeal Court which ultimately led to our party’s success.”
