APC Raises Alarm Over Alleged Removal of Tinubu’s Billboards in Anambra
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns regarding an alleged directive from Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to remove billboards featuring President Bola Tinubu. These billboards, which were placed across all 21 local government areas in the state by Sir Paul Chukwuma, a key contender in the 2025 Anambra governorship race, have reportedly been taken down under government orders.
The APC’s State Publicity Secretary, Okelo Ibezim, expressed his dismay, stating that when the party contacted the Managing Director of the Anambra Signage and Advertising Agency (ANSAA), it was revealed that the directive was beyond the agency’s control. Ibezim has since alerted APC leaders in the Southeast, including Imo State Governor, Chief Hope Uzodinma, as investigations into the matter continue.
Ibezim accused the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)-led government of ignoring the state’s pressing insecurity challenges, such as ongoing kidnappings and killings, while focusing on the removal of campaign materials. He further stated that under the leadership of Sir Paul Chukwuma, the APC aims to address these security concerns through a “3-3-point mantra” focused on human development, infrastructure growth, and enhanced security.
Chukwuma, who plans to contest the 2025 election on the APC platform, has reportedly revitalized the party in the state by providing new offices in Awka, local government areas, and wards, and launching an extensive membership drive. According to Ibezim, many stakeholders from opposition parties, including the Labour Party (LP), APGA, and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), have joined APC as the party builds momentum for the upcoming election.
However, Anambra’s newly appointed Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, responded to the allegations, denying any removal of President Tinubu’s billboards. Mefor clarified that the campaign billboards taken down were those of individuals, not the president, and stressed the importance of adhering to the state’s electoral laws. He pointed out that the official campaign season had not yet begun, saying, “There is a time for everything, and Mr. President is not running for the governorship election in Anambra.”
