APC Narrows Down Edo Governorship Aspirants to Four Ahead of Primary Election
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has streamlined its pool of governorship aspirants from twenty-nine to four, paving the way for the impending primary election on February 17.
Announcing this development on February 6, the Publicity Secretary of Edo APC, Peter Uwadia-Igbinigie, revealed that the four prominent candidates are Lucky Imasuen, former Edo Deputy Governor; Dennis Idahosa, Representative of Ovia constituency in the House of Representatives; Col. David Imuse (rtd.), former Edo Chairman of APC; and Senator Monday Okpekholo, representative of Edo Central.
Highlighting the geographical distribution, Uwadiae-Igbinigie pointed out that Imasuen and Idahosa are from Edo South, while Imuse and Okpekholo hail from Edo Central.
“The advisory committee, led by Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, aimed to encourage aspirants to consider reducing their numbers,” stated Uwadiae-Igbinigie. “The four candidates received positive evaluations, ensuring efficient primary management within the committee’s terms of reference.”
Addressing concerns about the fairness of the process, Uwadiae-Igbinigie reassured aspirants of a level-playing field during the screening by the National Working Committee (NWC) scheduled for February 8 and 9.
He emphasized that the initiative aimed to dispel misconceptions, affirming the aspirants’ constitutional rights while underscoring the commitment of the APC to transparency and equity in selecting its gubernatorial candidate.
