APC Leader Predicts Catastrophe if North Challenges Tinubu’s Power in 2027

Hon. Jonathan Tsado Vatsa, a former Commissioner for Information Culture and Tourism and Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State, cautioned against altering the political arrangement that led to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s emergence in 2023. Vatsa stated that any such attempt could spell doom for Nigeria in 2027.

Vatsa criticized those advocating for the abolition of the present zoning arrangements, asserting that such a “shifting of goal posts at the middle of the game” would harm the unity of the country. Responding to Professor Ango Abdullahi’s comments on the rotational Presidency, Vatsa urged patience until after 2027, emphasizing that every region should have had a shot at the Presidency before considering changes.

While acknowledging the need for good leadership, Vatsa criticized Abdullahi’s viewpoint as undemocratic and a threat to Nigeria’s peace and unity. He argued for maintaining the zoning arrangement until every region has experienced the Presidency, suggesting that an Igbo Presidency after 2027 would promote equity, justice, and fairness.

Vatsa condemned the idea of wrestling power with Tinubu in 2027, emphasizing the peace and stability brought by the zoning arrangement since 1999. He questioned the timing of calls to abolish rotational presidency, pointing out that similar concerns did not arise during former President Buhari’s tenure.

Highlighting the challenges faced by the north, Vatsa attributed insecurity to poverty and lack of education, criticizing northern leaders for prioritizing personal interests over public welfare. He urged northern leaders to focus on ending insecurity by addressing poverty and promoting education.

In conclusion, Vatsa warned that changing the political goal post in 2027, especially in the middle of the game, could lead to anarchy in the country. The APC Chieftain stressed the importance of maintaining stability and continuity in Nigeria’s political landscape.
