APC Governor, FG Disagree Over Rice Palliative Distribution
The federal government has rejected claims by Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, that his state has not received 20 trucks of rice palliatives.
During a meeting with civil society organizations, Organized Labour, and the Amalgamated Unions of Traders in Gombe, Governor Yahaya stated that the state was still awaiting the delivery of rice palliatives from the federal government. He did, however, commend the initiative.
Governor Yahaya’s assertion was reported by Punch Newspaper, noting that the 20 trucks of rice had not been delivered to Gombe.
In response, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, refuted the governor’s claim in an interview with BBC Hausa on Saturday. Idris stated that rice was dispatched to all state governors two weeks ago for distribution to the masses and that no other governor had disputed the delivery.
“The distribution was made public over two weeks ago, and no other governor has disputed the delivery except from Gombe,” said Idris. “All the governors were given 20 trucks of rice for distribution to people. The claim that it was not given is a new statement I have heard.”
Idris emphasized that records show each governor received their allocation, contradicting the Gombe governor’s statement.
