APC Disqualifies Lagos Chairmanship Aspirant Over Alleged Double Salaries from Government

Chairmanship aspirant for Eti-Osa East Local Government, Samad Ogunbo, has been disqualified from the race by the All Progressives Congress (APC) following allegations that he received salaries from two different government agencies simultaneously. According to documents reviewed, Ogunbo was employed both as a staff member under the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and as Supervisor for Health at the Eti-Osa Local Council Development Area (LCDA), a situation that allegedly contravenes Lagos State civil service laws.

Ogunbo’s appointment as Supervisor for Health at the LCDA dates back to April 2022. However, records from SUBEB indicate that he was also drawing a salary from the education board during this same period. The overlapping employment came to light after the Eti-Osa LCDA sent a formal inquiry to SUBEB seeking clarification on Ogunbo’s employment and salary status.

In response, the Education Secretary of SUBEB, Soetan S.A., confirmed that Ogunbo and another individual were still listed as active staff on SUBEB’s payroll, adding that the board had not been informed of their political appointments. The response expressed surprise and concern over the simultaneous employment and offered further cooperation in any ongoing investigations.

A source familiar with the matter described the situation as a clear violation of civil service regulations, stating that government employees are prohibited from holding dual appointments in separate government bodies. The source emphasized that Ogunbo had been drawing dual salaries as a civil servant and a political appointee, which formed the basis of the petition that led to his disqualification.

When contacted, Ogunbo confirmed that the matter had been reported to the police but declined to comment further, saying only, “The case is with the police. I am in a meeting now.”
