Another LP Federal Lawmaker Defects APC

Another Labour Party Lawmaker Joins APC

 

Chimaobi Atu, a member of the House of Representatives representing Enugu North/South Federal Constituency, has officially defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). His defection was announced on the floor of the House during plenary on Wednesday, June 26, by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who read the letter submitted by Atu.

 

In the letter, Atu cited internal leadership crises within the Labour Party as the reason for his departure, claiming the situation had disrupted his ability to effectively carry out his legislative responsibilities.

 

Following the announcement, Minority Whip Ali Isa raised an objection, urging the Speaker to declare Atu’s seat vacant. However, while Speaker Abbas acknowledged the point of order, he refrained from making a ruling on the matter.

 

Atu’s move marks the latest in a wave of defections to the APC. Just a day earlier, Peter Akpanke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), representing Obanliku/Obudu/Bekwara Federal Constituency in Cross River State, and Paul Nnamchi of the Labour Party, representing Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency, also switched allegiance to the ruling party.
