Anambra Suspends Head Teacher Over Unauthorized Political Rally in School
The Anambra State Government has suspended the head teacher of Community Primary School, Umunze, in Orumba South Local Government Area, for allowing a political rally to take place within the school premises.
Commissioner for Education, Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, announced the indefinite suspension in a statement issued on Wednesday in Awka. She said the head teacher’s action violated an existing directive by the Ministry of Education, which on August 14 banned the use of schools for political, social, or religious gatherings.
Chuma-Udeh condemned the decision to host the rally, saying it disrupted academic activities and put pupils’ safety at risk. She also revealed that the state government plans to take legal action against the organisers of the rally.
“The rally disrupted learning and endangered the lives of children. Such actions will not be tolerated in any school in Anambra State,” she said.
Earlier the same day, Orumba South Local Government Chairman, Shedrack Azubuike, reportedly stopped another unapproved political rally at a different primary school, reiterating the state’s ban on any form of gathering within schools during school hours.
