Anambra Police Save 28-Year-Old Man from Suicide Attempt on High-Tension Pole
A 28-year-old man has been rescued after attempting suicide by climbing a high-tension electricity pole in Awada, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the incident happened on Tuesday evening behind Grace of God Mission, off NEPA Road. According to him, operatives from the Awada Division arrived at the scene swiftly after receiving a distress call, cordoned off the area to prevent danger, and managed the crowd that had gathered.
The man, identified as Okwudili David Onyiba, initially resisted pleas to come down but was eventually persuaded after several minutes of dialogue involving police officers and concerned residents. He was then taken into protective custody at the station.
Ikenga noted that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has directed that the victim undergo medical and mental health evaluation. He assured that the police will provide support to ensure Onyiba’s recovery and urged the public to seek lawful and peaceful solutions to personal challenges, including reaching out to family, friends, or support groups in times of distress.
