Anambra Police Recover Burnt Body at Waste Dumpsite, Suspected Jungle Justice Victim
Police operatives from the Atani Divisional Headquarters in Anambra State recovered a burnt corpse on May 7 during a routine patrol at a waste dumpsite in Iyiowa Odekpe. Authorities suspect the deceased may have been a victim of jungle justice.
Preliminary investigations suggest the individual was part of a gang involved in car battery theft in the area. According to reports, the victim was allegedly caught by a mob during one of the group’s criminal operations and set ablaze, while the other gang members managed to flee.
Speaking on the incident, Anambra State Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the discovery and said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, strongly condemned the mob action. He cautioned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands and urged residents to report criminal activities to the police for proper investigation and legal action.
