Anambra Police Nab Two Suspected Robbers, Recover Firearm and Stolen Items
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspected robbers in connection with a recent attack on a woman in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area. The suspects, identified as Micheal Chinweze, 20, from Enugu State, and Mmesoma Agba, 25, from Enugwu-Nanka, were apprehended by a joint security team comprising police operatives and members of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG).
According to the command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrest took place on January 24, 2025, following an intelligence-led operation. The security team recovered a pump-action gun, a mobile phone, a black handbag, and two small glass pipes suspected to be used for inhaling hard drugs.
Ikenga revealed that the suspects were linked to a robbery incident reported on January 22 at the Oko Community Hospital. The victim was allegedly attacked at gunpoint, and her belongings, including a red Cub motorcycle with registration number WER 137 GV valued at ₦1.3 million, a Tecno mobile phone, an ATM card, and ₦38,000 in cash, were stolen.
During interrogation, Micheal Chinweze confessed to the crime and admitted stealing the firearm from a security post at a hotel in Amaokpala. Further investigations also uncovered that Mmesoma Agba’s first husband, a known gang member, was previously killed in a police shootout during a criminal operation.
In response to the arrest, Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka. He also urged officers to intensify efforts to apprehend the remaining suspect who remains at large.
