Anambra Police Launch ‘Operation Zero Kidnapping’ Ahead of Easter
In preparation for the Easter celebrations, the Anambra State Police Command has launched a new security initiative named *Operation Udo Ga Chi – Zero Kidnapping and Other Violent Crimes* aimed at ensuring a peaceful and crime-free festive period across the state.
Addressing journalists in Awka, the state Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, described the operation as a proactive move to reassure residents and encourage indigenes to return home without fear. He emphasized that the effort is a collaborative one, involving multiple security agencies such as the Nigerian Army’s 302 Artillery Regiment, the Navy’s Naval Outpost, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigerian Correctional Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Anambra State Vigilante Group.
Orutugu urged citizens to support the operation by providing credible information that would aid in the arrest and prosecution of kidnappers and other violent criminals. He highlighted that the operation is structured to include intelligence-led stop-and-search procedures, joint patrols, daily briefings to adjust strategy, and strategic deployment of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to improve emergency response across the state.
Divisional Police Officers and other local formations have been directed to carry out raids on known criminal hideouts and hot spots. The Commissioner also reminded officers to remain professional and civil while interacting with the public.
CP Orutugu expressed appreciation to the Anambra State Government and residents for their continuous support, particularly in the area of logistics, including the repair of operational vehicles and APCs. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to making Anambra a safer and more livable homeland for all.
