Anambra Police Arrest Two Over Murder of 80-Year-Old Woman in Ihiala
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two men in connection with the brutal murder of an 80-year-old woman, Mrs. Theresa Igbojonu, in Ihiala Local Government Area.
In a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were identified as Chidiebere Igboanugo and Emmanuel Ibeabuchi, both from Umunwaji Ogboro, Ihiala. Mrs. Igbojonu was reportedly found murdered in her home, her legs and mouth tied. A black CG motorcycle belonging to her was also stolen during the incident.
The case was first reported to the Ihiala Divisional Police Station on April 2, 2025, around 11:30 pm. On April 5, during a routine patrol at Ezego Junction, police officers arrested Chidiebere after the deceased’s son recognized the stolen motorcycle in his possession. During interrogation, Chidiebere confessed to the crime and named Emmanuel Ibeabuchi as his accomplice. Ibeabuchi was subsequently arrested on April 7.
Police investigations have since revealed that two other individuals, identified only as “Alla” and “Emeka,” were also involved in the crime and remain at large. The Commissioner of Police has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for further investigation. He also ordered a manhunt for the remaining suspects.
The police confirmed that the arrested suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
