Anambra: Gunmen Attack Police Checkpoint in Gov Soludo’s Hometown, Three Dead, Vehicle Set Ablaze
Three people lost their lives on Thursday night during a gunmen attack on a security checkpoint in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State. The victims include two of the attackers and one security operative, who were killed during a fierce gun battle between the assailants and members of the Anambra Joint Security Team.
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer Tochukwu Ikenga stated that one of the operational vehicles used by the security forces was set ablaze by the attackers. He also noted that the armed criminals, overpowered by the superior firepower of the security operatives, abandoned one of their own vehicles—a Toyota Sienna—before fleeing the scene.
Ikenga said the attack took place in the late hours of May 15, 2025, and was effectively repelled by the security team. “Two of the armed hoodlums were neutralized in the process. Regrettably, one of the security operatives was fatally wounded,” he said.
Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a challenge to the collective determination of Ndi Anambra to rid the state of criminal elements. He assured residents that efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
According to police, calm has since returned to the area, and additional armed operatives have been deployed. A manhunt is ongoing, with nearby bushes being combed for suspects. Authorities promised to provide updates as investigations progress.
