Anambra Government Shuts Down School Following Bullying Incident Involving Seven-Year-Old Pupil

The Anambra State government has ordered the immediate closure of Upcoming Star International School located on Ifite Road, Awka, following a severe bullying incident involving a seven-year-old pupil.

The decision was announced by the state Commissioner for Education, Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, after reports surfaced that the young pupil’s leg was broken by a classmate. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the school was operating without government approval.

“The pupil was subjected to bullying by a classmate, resulting in a broken leg,” said Ms. Chuma-Udeh. “When the school’s proprietor, Mr. Uchechukwu Onyeachonam, was questioned, he admitted to the incident. Further investigations revealed that the school was operating illegally.”

In response to these findings, Governor Chukwuma Soludo directed that the school be sealed off by 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. “The continued operation of such unauthorized schools poses a significant risk to the children of this state,” Ms. Chuma-Udeh stated.

The commissioner also issued a stern warning to proprietors of unapproved schools, stating that they would face legal consequences for violating state regulations. She urged parents to ensure that their children are only enrolled in government-approved institutions to safeguard their well-being.
