Anambra CP Exposes Influence of Powerful Figures in Release of Arrested Cultists, Criminals

In a startling revelation, the Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, Aderemi Adeoye, has disclosed the infiltration of justice processes by influential individuals, leading to the release of arrested cultists and criminals in the state.

Addressing the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Congress in Awka, Adeoye, represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, Akin Fakorede, expressed concern over the interference of powerful figures hindering the efforts of security operatives in maintaining peace and order in Anambra State.

Despite strides made towards restoring normalcy, Adeoye highlighted instances of security breaches, including attacks on police stations and a surge in cult-related killings, particularly in Awka.

Adeoye exclaimed, “When those things that have happened over a period of time begin to happen again, the question people should ask is Why?” He recounted instances where arrested cultists, duly charged and remanded, were released through lobbying efforts by influential locals, subsequently perpetrating further violence.

Highlighting a recent incident where an AK-47 was recovered from a suspect in Awada, Adeoye emphasized the potential devastation had the weapon been used in a cult-related clash. He vowed relentless pursuit of criminal elements, warning against any attempts to subvert justice.

The commissioner condemned acts of sabotage against security efforts and questioned the motives behind sponsoring crimes in society. Despite challenges, he affirmed the police force’s unwavering commitment to combating criminal activities in the state.

Turning to recent attacks on police stations, Adeoye disclosed aggressive countermeasures by security operatives, resulting in the raid and destruction of insurgent hideouts across various communities, including forests at Achalla, Ogbunka Aguluezechukwu, and Ogboji.

Revealing the recovery of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and casualties during encounters with insurgents, Adeoye underscored the significance of joint security efforts in mitigating further attacks.

While lamenting the loss of lives, Adeoye reassured the public of the command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property in Anambra State, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with the media to foster a safer environment for all residents.
