Ali Ndume Rejects New Office Allocation, Cites Seniority
Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has declined a new office allocation following his recent removal as Senate Chief Whip.
Ndume’s dismissal from his position on July 17 was attributed to his critical comments about President Bola Tinubu’s administration, leading to calls from the All Progressives Congress (APC) for his resignation from the party. Tahir Monguno, representing Borno North, has since replaced Ndume as the Senate Chief Whip.
The allocation of Ndume’s new office, located on the third floor of the National Assembly complex, has been met with rejection from the senator. According to a statement issued by his aide, Yati Shuaibu Gawu, Ndume insists that his seniority entitles him to an office on the fourth floor.
“Distinguished Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has rejected the allocation of office number 3.10 by the committee,” the statement read. “This is because offices are traditionally allocated on a seniority basis. Sen. Ndume is the most senior senator after Sen. Ahmad Lawan and will only occupy an office on the fourth floor.”
Following his removal as chief whip, Ndume was appointed as the Senate Committee Chairman on Tourism, a position he has also declined.
