Aiyedatiwa Assumes Ondo Governorship: Aides Resign, New Appointments Unveiled
In the wake of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s demise, three key aides have tendered their resignations, marking a shift in the political landscape of Ondo State. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who had been serving as the acting governor since December 13, was officially sworn in as the new Governor on Wednesday.
Adedoyin Odebowale, the Senior Special Assistant to the late Governor on Special Duties and Strategy, conveyed his resignation to the Secretary to the State Government on December 27, expressing gratitude for the “rare opportunity for service.” Known for his allegiance to Akeredolu, Odebowale had been prominent in opposing Aiyedatiwa during the recent political crisis in the state.
Similarly, Richard Olatunde, Chief Press Secretary to Mr. Akeredolu, submitted his resignation letter on the same day. Anticipated due to the appointment of Ebenezer Adeniyan as the new Chief Press Secretary, Olatunde attributed his decision to the “unfortunate and untimely death” of Governor Akeredolu, whom he hailed as a “leader, principal, and father figure.”
Dare Aragbaiye, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Union Matters and Special Duties, joined the resignations by submitting his letter at the office of the Secretary to the State Government. Aragbaiye cited loyalty to Governor Akeredolu, even in death, as the driving force behind his decision to step down.
Meanwhile, Governor Aiyedatiwa wasted no time in making key appointments. Smart Omodunbi is now the Special Assistant on Political Matters, Abire Olugbenga assumes the role of Special Assistant on New Media, Motunrayo Oyedele becomes the Special Assistant on Photography, and Temitayo Iperepolu takes on the position of Special Assistant on Domestic and Government House. These appointments are effective immediately, signifying a swift transition in the state’s leadership and administrative structure.
