Again, 49 Killed in Zamfara as Bandits Rampage Through Villages
During a harrowing five-day-long operation, bandits have left a trail of death in Zamfara State, claiming the lives of at least 49 individuals. The attacks targeted five villages in the Anka Local Government Area, where residents recount scenes of horror and grief.
According to local sources, the violence unfolded with chilling efficiency: 18 lives were brutally taken in Farar-Kasa village, 22 in Dangulbi, two in Duhuwa, four in Tsatsomawa, and three in Yar Sabaya villages.
Residents, weary from the relentless onslaught of banditry, express frustration and fear over the impunity with which the criminals operate. One resident, speaking under the condition of anonymity, lamented, “Banditry has become a daily affair in this part of Zamfara state. To be honest with you, we are tired of this menace.”
The absence of effective security measures exacerbates the situation, leaving communities vulnerable to repeated attacks. Mallam Bello Muhammad, a commercial driver, implores government intervention, stating, “Non-presence of security is aiding banditry in the local government.”
Despite mounting pressure and pleas for assistance, authorities seem unable to stem the tide of violence. When reached for comment, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Command failed to provide details or reassurance.
In the face of escalating bloodshed, the Zamfara State Government stands firm against negotiations with the perpetrators. Rejecting any proposed peace pact with bandits, the government underscores the need for decisive action to restore peace and security to the embattled state.
