AFCON: Ndidi explains Osimhen, Lookman disagreement in Nigeria’s 4-0 win
Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has addressed the brief disagreement between Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman during Nigeria’s 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking to reporters in the mixed zone after the match at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, Ndidi said the incident was a result of both players’ desire to do more for the team rather than any personal issue.
According to the midfielder, the exchange reflected a strong competitive mindset within the squad.
“It’s a really competitive attitude, and I like that because we want to have more,” Ndidi said. “Yes, we miss so many chances. It’s just when you really want something more and it’s not happening. So I feel really happy with the attitude because everyone wants more.”
The moment between Osimhen and Lookman drew attention from fans, but Ndidi stressed that such reactions are common among players pushing for higher standards on the pitch.
Nigeria dominated the contest from the opening stages. Lookman opened the scoring in the 20th minute before Osimhen added two goals. Adams completed the scoring in the 75th minute to seal a comfortable win.
The Super Eagles will now face the winner of the quarter-final clash between Algeria and DR Congo in Marrakech, as they move into the next round with confidence.
