ADC Chairman Laments Slow Registration, Revalidation Process in Anambra
The Anambra State chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Patrick Obianyo, has expressed concern over the slow pace of the party’s ongoing membership registration and revalidation exercise in the state.
Obianyo spoke on Saturday during the inauguration of the state chapter of the ADC Independent Campaign Council (AICC), a support group within the party.
According to him, technical challenges affecting the party’s registration portal have significantly slowed the process. He disclosed that as of Thursday, only about 22,000 members had been successfully registered across Anambra.
He explained that the difficulties with the portal have made it hard for many intending members to complete their registration despite being mobilized to designated centers.
“Yesterday we mobilized a large number of people to various registration centres, but the process was not easy. Only a few people were successfully registered while many others had to leave disappointed,” Obianyo said.
To avoid losing potential members, he said party officials began collecting personal details from registrants with the intention of uploading the information later when traffic on the system was lower.
“We took down their names, BVN and other details hoping to upload them later at night when traffic would reduce. Even then it was still difficult. It was only around midnight that we were able to complete some of the registrations,” he added.
Obianyo said the current figure of about 22,000 members falls short of expectations compared with progress recorded in other states, including Adamawa State, where the exercise started earlier.
He noted that the party is targeting about 120,000 registered members in Anambra and plans to add another 100,000 before Monday, provided the technical issues affecting the portal are resolved.
During the event, Obianyo inaugurated a 10-member leadership committee for the state chapter of the ADC Independent Campaign Council and urged them to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of future political contests.
He also encouraged members to engage voters on the need for political change, criticising the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over the current economic hardship faced by many Nigerians.
Earlier, the National Coordinator of the AICC, Jaja Anthony Ibiam, urged members of the council to remain committed to expanding the party’s support base.
Ibiam said members must play an active role in efforts to reposition the country and work towards improving Nigeria’s governance and development.
