Adamawa Police Arrest Man Who Climbed High-Tension Pole Demanding President Tinubu’s Resignation
The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a young man who scaled a 33kv high-tension pole in the Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area, demanding that President Bola Tinubu step down from office.
The incident occurred on Friday, September 27, 2024, which coincided with Mayo-Belwa’s market day. The man climbed the pole located along the Yola-Jalingo highway, refusing to come down until President Tinubu resigned.
Efforts to rescue him involved local residents, who managed to convince the man to descend from the pole by Saturday night.
Speaking to the press on Sunday, September 29, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguruje, confirmed the incident. According to Nguruje, the man is currently in the protective custody of the Criminal Investigating Department (CID).
“The man will be paraded on Monday for attempting suicide, which is a criminal offense under our constitution. We will be charging him to court,” said Nguruje.
The police further emphasized their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stating that anyone attempting to take their own life will face legal consequences.
