In a daring operation today, police operatives in Adamawa State successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt and neutralized one of the suspected gunmen. The incident occurred in the Gombi local government area, where a businessman narrowly escaped abduction.
The Adamawa Police Command released a statement on Wednesday detailing the operation carried out by their operatives attached to the Gombi Divisional Police Headquarters in collaboration with local hunters. The operation, which took place on September 6, 2023, successfully disrupted an organized crime to kidnap Mr. Gideon Bitrus, a resident of Jangra village in Gombi.
Upon receiving intelligence regarding the planned abduction, the police swiftly established a security perimeter around the potential victim, effectively thwarting the kidnappers’ sinister plot. A fierce gun battle ensued between the law enforcement team and the five suspected kidnappers, resulting in one of the assailants being neutralized, while the others managed to escape, albeit with gunshot wounds.
The commendable bravery displayed by the Gombi Divisional Police Officer (DPO), his team, and the local hunters during this operation drew praise from the state Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola. He lauded their gallantry and directed them to maintain this level of vigilance as a strategic approach to combating crime in the region.
The police command urged the general public to continue assisting law enforcement efforts by promptly reporting any information about criminal activities, particularly those individuals seeking medical attention for gunshot wounds.
During the operation, authorities recovered a locally made pistol, three cartridges, various charms, and a sum of N2,700 from the suspects, underscoring the seriousness of their intent to commit this heinous crime.
