Acid Attack Horror in South London Leaves British Mother, 2 Children Injured, 7 Others Affected
In a shocking incident on Wednesday, a British mother and her two young children fell victim to an acid attack on Lessar Avenue, Clapham South, South London. The assailant threw a suspected corrosive substance at the trio before fleeing the scene, leaving the victims severely injured.
The victims were swiftly taken to the hospital for treatment, and Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation, utilizing a helicopter to assist in the manhunt for the attacker.
According to reports from Daily Mirror, three additional adults sustained injuries and were also hospitalized, with three police officers receiving minor injuries while responding to the incident. It is believed that these individuals were inadvertently injured while rushing to assist the family.
Marina Ahmad, Labour’s London Assembly member for Lambeth & Southwark, shared on X (formerly Twitter): “There has been a traffic collision with a man assaulting occupants in a car and throwing acid. Victims include children.”
Five out of the nine individuals treated by the London Ambulance Service were taken to a major trauma center, while three were transported to a local hospital. The ninth person was discharged at the scene.
Detective Superintendent Alexander Castle stated, “While tests are ongoing to determine what the substance is, at this stage, we believe it to be a corrosive substance. A man was seen fleeing the scene. We are drawing on resources from across the Met to apprehend this individual.”
He urged the public to provide information and assistance by calling 999 immediately, referencing CAD 7790/31 Jan.
The London Ambulance Service confirmed their response to the incident, stating, “We treated nine people, five of whom were taken to a major trauma center. Three patients were taken to a local hospital, and the other was discharged at the scene.”
London Fire Brigade was also involved, responding to the chemical incident on Lessar Avenue. Firefighters provided emergency care, and specialist equipment was employed to detect the corrosive substance. The incident concluded for firefighters by 21:21.
