Abia Man Who Set Family Ablaze Over Alleged Infidelity Dies After Wife, Child’s Deaths
Mr. Udochi Amala, the Abia man who set his family on fire over allegations of infidelity, has died from injuries sustained in the incident. His death follows that of his wife and their 2-year-old daughter, who were earlier confirmed dead.
The Abia State Police Command confirmed the development on May 17, 2025. Police spokesperson DSP Maureen Chinaka said the tragic event occurred on May 16 in the Asa Umudioka autonomous community, Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area. According to the report, the community’s vigilante group alerted authorities after hearing screams and discovering Mr. Amala’s house in flames.
Investigations revealed that Mr. Amala had accused his wife of infidelity and, in a fit of rage, locked himself, his wife, and their young daughter inside their home before setting it on fire. The child died at the scene, while his wife sustained severe burns and was rushed to the hospital.
Mr. Amala, who also suffered critical injuries, was arrested at the scene and taken to the hospital under police watch. Despite efforts to save them, both he and his wife were confirmed dead the following day.
Authorities say investigations into the incident are ongoing.
