76 Malnourished #EndBadGovernance Protesters Arraigned in Abuja Federal High Court

In a tense scene today at the Federal High Court in Abuja, 76 detained #EndBadGovernance protesters arrived for their arraignment before Justice Obiora Egwuatu. Many of the protesters, some as young as 15, appeared visibly malnourished and weak, with four unable to stand and requiring immediate medical attention as they were carried out of the courtroom.

The protesters, mostly minors, were detained following the nationwide protests from August 1 to August 10. The demonstrations, spurred by escalating economic hardships across the country, saw citizens from Abuja, Kaduna, Gombe, Jos, Katsina, and Kano taking to the streets to call for improved governance. Their charges include allegations of treason, among other serious offenses.

Those present included Nura Ibrahim (24), Abdulbasi Abdusalami (34), Ahmed Yusuf (25), Awolu Abdulahi (21), Umar Musa (15), and Muhammadu Mustapha (16). The scene inside the court highlighted the severity of their reported health conditions, as many appeared frail, writhing in pain as they awaited further proceedings.
