7/7: Police Warn Against Cult-Linked Events, Boost Patrols in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has launched a security operation targeting unlawful gatherings in response to intelligence reports suggesting that the Neo-Black Movement of Africa may attempt cult initiations and attacks on rival groups today, July 7.

Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu disclosed that these activities often occur in student-dominated areas, prompting a strategic increase in security presence. The move is part of a broader effort to prevent a potential breakdown of law and order linked to suspected cult-related violence.

Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga stated that the Schools Protection Squad (SPS), a special unit established by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to protect educational institutions, has been directed to adopt proactive measures. He urged hoteliers, lounge operators, and studio apartment managers to avoid hosting any events that may be connected to cult groups.

According to Ikenga, covert surveillance and patrols have been ramped up in motor parks, commercial tricycle stands, and other potential hotspots across the state. He encouraged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity or gatherings to local police authorities.

The police command emphasized its commitment to maintaining public safety and preventing criminal elements from disrupting peace in the state.
