PDP’s Board of Trustees Condemns APC’s Handling of Economic and Security Challenges in 76th Meeting
At the 76th Meeting of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), held today, the board expressed deep concerns over the state of affairs in Nigeria, particularly addressing economic hardships, insecurity, and the overall governance of the country.
The BoT highlighted the biting economic challenges, attributing them to poorly implemented policies by the APC administration. They expressed alarm over the soaring costs of essential commodities and widespread food scarcity, contributing to restiveness and agitation across the nation.
Worsening insecurity also took center stage during the meeting, with the BoT condemning the rising cases of mass killings, banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism. They pointed to a perceived lack of urgency from the APC administration in addressing these security issues.
The BoT did not shy away from addressing allegations of corruption within the APC government, specifically pointing to the looting of funds meant for palliatives for vulnerable Nigerians. Additionally, they raised concerns over the deplorable state of the national currency, the Naira, which has fallen to an alarming N1,500 to the Dollar. The ever-increasing fuel prices, now exceeding N700 per liter, and long queues at fuel stations were also highlighted.
The economic repercussions are evident in the nearly 30% inflation rate, 41% unemployment rate, and a staggering 46% poverty rate, pushing millions of citizens into multi-dimensional poverty over the last nine months.
The BoT expressed deep distress over the current state of hopelessness among Nigerians, with many leaving the country as a result. They criticized the APC administration for lacking coherent policies to address these existential threats, putting the nation in a precarious situation.
In a significant call to action, the BoT urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address issues such as corruption, insecurity, falling currency value, high fuel prices, and unemployment promptly. They emphasized the need for concrete and coherent policies to tackle the challenges facing the nation.
Despite the challenges, the BoT reassured the public of the PDP’s unity and determination. Confirming Senator Adolphus Wabara as Chairman and Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi as Secretary, the BoT affirmed its commitment to working for the well-being of Nigerians and defending their interests. As the PDP repositions for future endeavors, they called on all party members to remain united and focused.
