In a shocking turn of events, a 38-year-old man identified as Mathew Ifeanyi has been apprehended by the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe) for allegedly murdering his own 100-year-old father, Anthony Nnadike. The distressing incident occurred in the Olorunda area of Eruobodo Ntabo, Ijoko, within the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.
According to the So-Safe Commandant, Soji Ganzallo, who released a statement through the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Corps, Moruf Yusuf, the gruesome attack took place on Tuesday, 29th August. It was reported that Ifeanyi assaulted his elderly father with a machete. The elder Nnadike was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital due to the severe injuries he sustained during the assault. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical professionals.
Disturbingly, the motive behind this horrific incident appears to be a sum of N70,000 that had been entrusted to Mathew Ifeanyi by his father since July 2022. The younger man allegedly confessed during preliminary investigations that he carried out the gruesome act because his father failed to repay the amount. Ifeanyi claimed that he had left his previous job in order to pursue a business venture, but his father’s inability to provide the promised funds drove him to commit this heinous crime.
Upon receiving information about the incident, Superintendent Alabi Gafar, the Divisional Officer of the Alade/Atago/Ntabo Divisional Command of So-Safe, directed the patrol team to intervene. Despite their efforts, Anthony Nnadike sadly lost his life due to the severity of his injuries.
In light of these disturbing developments, Mathew Ifeanyi has been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force’s Sango Divisional Headquarters for further investigation and prosecution. This tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the consequences of unresolved conflicts and the importance of seeking non-violent solutions, even in the face of financial disputes.
