32-Year-Old Man Found Dead in Ogun Hotel; Police Investigate Suspected Suicide
Tragedy struck on Thursday as a 32-year-old man, identified as Lanre Ogungbe, was found dead in a hotel room located in Soyoye, Abeokuta. The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the incident, which occurred at Authentic Hotel around 2 p.m.
In a statement released on Friday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, disclosed that the deceased was found alongside a bottle of alcohol, identified as “Lakoko,” and a bottle of the pesticide “Sniper,” raising suspicions of possible poisoning or suicide. There were no visible signs of violence on Ogungbe’s body, according to police reports.
The incident came to light when the hotel’s receptionist noticed that Ogungbe had not been seen after checking in for a short rest. Upon entering his room, his lifeless body was discovered on the bed. The hotel manager immediately informed the owner, who contacted the police at the Lafenwa Police Station at 3 p.m.
SP Odutola confirmed that police detectives responded swiftly, securing the scene and collecting the substances found near the deceased. The body was later transferred to General Hospital in Ijaiye for further examination and post-mortem analysis, where Ogungbe was officially pronounced dead.
Authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the matter, with the cause of death yet to be conclusively determined.
