22-Year-Old Woman Dies After Collapsing at Umuahia Event Centre
A 22-year-old woman, identified as Christiana, has died after collapsing at her workplace in Umuahia South, Abia State. Christiana, an employee at an event centre, reportedly slumped while on duty and was later confirmed dead upon arrival at a hospital in Olokoro. She was born on December 8, 2003, and would have turned 23 next month.
Her mother, Mrs. Uwalaka, who lost her husband 15 years ago, said Christiana had only complained of a stomach ulcer and had not shown signs of serious illness. “I spoke with her yesterday afternoon, and she said she was fine,” Mrs. Uwalaka recounted. She added that the event centre management contacted the family hours after the incident, asking them to come and retrieve Christiana’s body.
Christiana’s elder brother, Onyemaechi David Innocent, rushed her to the hospital, where doctors confirmed her death on arrival. The family expressed frustration that no immediate medical help was provided, with Mrs. Uwalaka stating, “They said she was sick all through the night, but nobody helped her. They just waited until she died.”
Christiana had been employed at the event centre for only two months. Her family described her as “hardworking, humble, and God-fearing,” lamenting that she went to work healthy and did not deserve such a fate.
Her death has deeply affected the Olokoro community, with residents calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her untimely passing.
