2027: Kano NNPP Crisis Worsens as Federal Lawmakers Withdraw from Kwankwasiyya Movement
In a political shakeup within Kano State’s New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), two influential members of the House of Representatives, Aliyu Sani Madaki (Kano Municipal) and Alhassan Rurum (Rano/Kibiya/Bunkure), announced their exit from the Kwankwasiyya Movement on Sunday. The Kwankwasiyya faction, led by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has faced growing internal dissent, adding tension as the party gears up for the 2027 presidential election.
Aliyu Sani Madaki, the Deputy Minority Leader in the House of Representatives, made his disassociation from Kwankwasiyya public while addressing his constituents in Kano. Madaki’s strong statements indicate a deep rift within the movement. “As of today, I, Aliyu Sani Madaki, am no longer aligned with the Kwankwasiyya Movement. They may say we lack support, but we are unafraid to stand alone,” he declared. Emphasizing his readiness to oppose any party leaders if necessary, Madaki stated, “There is no one I cannot confront within the movement, from top to bottom.”
Madaki further accused the movement of downplaying the influence of certain leaders and failing to recognize the efforts of long-standing members. His comments suggest frustration with perceived dismissiveness from Kwankwasiyya’s leadership toward representatives like himself.
Addressing the leadership of the incumbent Kano Governor, Abba Yusuf, Madaki expressed concerns over political maneuvers allegedly aimed at undermining Yusuf’s administration. “My message to the governor is simple: those around him may be plotting against him. I urge him to stay vigilant and stand firm, or he may be blindsided,” he warned.
