2027: “It’s Not Yet Your Turn; South-East Will Deliver 90% of Its Votes to Tinubu” — Umahi Tells Obi
David Umahi, Minister of Works, has predicted that the south-east geopolitical zone will contribute 90 percent of its votes to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Saturday during an inspection of the Alaoji section of the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway, Umahi emphasized that the south-east is not yet positioned to produce Nigeria’s president and should approach political decisions strategically.
He praised Tinubu’s investments in the region, calling them “legacy projects,” and argued that continued support from the south-east is essential for sustaining development.
“All the marginalization we complained about has been addressed by the president. Unless we are not being truthful to ourselves, marginalization in the south-east is a thing of the past,” Umahi said. He highlighted the appointment of a south-east minister of works as a significant milestone.
Citing ongoing road projects from Port Harcourt to Enugu, he noted that federal engagement in the region has reached an unprecedented scale. “When I was deputy governor and then governor for eight years, not a single federal road project came to the state. Today, we have multiple projects worth trillions of naira,” he said.
Umahi urged south-east residents to support Tinubu and act strategically, adding, “We should tell Peter Obi that it is not yet our turn.”
He also assured the contractor handling the Alaoji project of timely fund releases to ensure completion before the president’s planned tour of the south-east and south-south regions in May. He emphasized the 50-year design lifespan of the road and invited public scrutiny.
“All projects have been submitted to the ICPC for evaluation, ensuring transparency,” Umahi said during an inspection of the Port Harcourt section of the expressway, executed by an indigenous contractor.
