2027: Dickson Invites ‘Dissatisfied’ Politicians to Join NDC, Pledges Stability
Seriake Dickson, national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on members of other political parties who feel sidelined or disillusioned to join the party, assuring them of direction and stability.
Dickson made the appeal on Wednesday in Abuja while addressing journalists after the NDC’s inaugural National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
He described the NDC as a platform built on inclusiveness and clear purpose, urging politicians who feel “stranded” in their current parties to consider a switch. According to him, the party offers an alternative for those who believe their political platforms have lost focus or failed to meet expectations.
The Bayelsa West senator said the NDC has a defined vision for governance and national development, adding that its structure provides clarity for both members and prospective entrants.
Addressing concerns that an influx of defectors could trigger internal conflicts, Dickson said the party’s ideological base and organisational framework would ensure cohesion.
“We are an ideological party with clear principles and structures to manage growth,” he said.
He also disclosed that the NEC approved measures to expand inclusion within the party, including affirmative action for women and increased participation of young people. Party leaders at all levels, he said, have been directed to implement these policies across their structures.
Dickson further urged members to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, emphasising the use of the party’s electronic registration system to build a stronger base.
He stressed that electoral success would depend on strategy and commitment rather than financial inducement, calling for direct engagement with voters at polling unit and community levels.
In response to changes in the electoral timetable, Dickson acknowledged increased pressure on political parties but maintained that there remains sufficient time to organise effectively.
He directed state chairmen to scale up mobilisation, setting a target of 300 to 500 verified members per ward.
Also speaking, NDC National Chairman Moses Cleopas reaffirmed his commitment to transparent and accountable leadership, describing his emergence as chairman as a reflection of the party’s collective will.
He said leadership within the NDC would remain focused on service and purpose as the party consolidates its national structure ahead of the elections.
