2027: Atiku, Obi, Amaechi to Sign Unity Pact Ahead of ADC Presidential Primary
Presidential hopefuls under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi, are set to sign a formal agreement pledging support for whoever emerges as the party’s presidential candidate in the 2027 election. The agreement, aimed at strengthening unity within the party ahead of the primary election, was confirmed by Amaechi in an interview with *LEADERSHIP* on Friday.
The development comes as the three major political figures, who previously contested under different platforms, have now declared their intention to run on the ADC ticket. While speculation continues over a possible zoning of the party’s presidential ticket to the North to favour Atiku, ADC’s interim national chairman, Senator David Mark, has refuted claims of any preferential treatment. He assured party members that the process will be “absolutely transparent.”
Amaechi emphasized the importance of a clear and fair process, noting that all aspirants have agreed in principle to support the outcome of a transparent primary. However, he raised concerns about potential manipulation. “What we agreed in principle, and I must say there is a need to lay the cards on the table – what we agreed is that whoever emerges from a transparent primary will be supported by everyone. But first, we need to sit down and define what we mean by transparent because it’s easy for someone to hijack the process and still call it transparent,” he stated.
The unity pact is expected to be signed ahead of the party’s upcoming primary election, setting the tone for what may be one of the most competitive internal races in ADC’s history.
