2025 Budget: “Tinubu May Have No Projects to Commission for Reelection” – APC Chieftain
Former federal lawmaker Senator Ita Enang has cautioned that President Bola Tinubu could struggle to showcase completed projects during his reelection campaign due to inadequate budget allocations for key sectors.
Speaking on Inside Sources with Laolu Akande, a socio-political program on Channels Television, Enang criticized the 2025 budget, warning that its current structure does not support significant developmental achievements.
Tinubu had presented the N49.7 trillion budget proposal to the National Assembly on December 18, 2024. However, Enang, who previously served as Senior Special Assistant to former President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters, argued that the allocations were insufficient to fund impactful projects. He cited low revenue generation and weak financial commitments as major concerns.
The National Assembly is set to resume on February 4, 2025, after ongoing budget defense sessions by ministries, departments, and agencies. Enang emphasized that if the budget is passed without significant adjustments, it could pose challenges for Tinubu’s reelection campaign.
He warned that the administration might have little to showcase in 2026 and 2027, as key projects could be stalled or abandoned due to inadequate funding.
“By the end of 2025, Mr. President is supposed to commission projects, but what will he commission if they are uncompleted?” Enang asked.
He urged Tinubu’s team to reassess the budget and prioritize essential projects to ensure the government has tangible achievements to present during the next election cycle.
