14-Year-Old Dies from Head Injury While Testing Bulletproof Charms in Edo State

A 14-year-old boy, Okonkwo Obinna Emmanuel, has tragically died from a head injury while testing bulletproof charms in Edo State. The incident occurred on April 2, 2025, at Iyamu village in the Illushi community, located within the Ubiaja area of Esan South-East local government.

According to reports, Okonkwo’s elder brother, Okonkwo Onyenbuchi, informed the police about the incident. A source close to the situation, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that a self-proclaimed native doctor, Amechi Edozunor, along with one Kelvin Ugru, allegedly performed a charm ritual on the victim to make him “invulnerable to bottles.”

During the ritual, the suspects reportedly struck the boy’s head with a bottle to demonstrate the effectiveness of the charm. This resulted in a fatal injury. The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was receiving treatment but succumbed to his injuries on April 5, 2025.

The deceased’s remains have been transferred to the hospital mortuary for an autopsy. Meanwhile, both suspects, Edozunor and Ugru, have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently in police custody, pending further investigation.

When contacted for a statement, Moses Yamu, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, confirmed he would get back to the correspondent but had not responded by the time of filing this report.
