13-Year-Old Girl Abducted on Her Way Home from School in Lagos
On Friday, December 1st, 13-year-old Miracle Adereti Kolawole was abducted by an unidentified gang while making her way home from school in the Ikotun area of Lagos.
Miracle’s father, Mr. Adereti Oluwadare Segun, dropped her and her younger sister at the bus stop in the morning, where the school bus usually picks them up. He received a distressing call in the afternoon, informing him of his daughter’s abduction.
The concerned father reported the incident promptly to the Afonka Police Station in Egbeda, Alimosho, Lagos, on the same day. Inspector Ogidiolu Olajimi is leading the investigation and rescue efforts, according to the police incident report.
Witnesses revealed that the gang closely followed the school bus, strategically parking a short distance away from the bus stop. After the bus departed, they seized the opportunity to abduct Miracle while she and her sister were walking home.
In a press statement, Mr. Adereti shared, “We woke up early to prepare the kids for school before I dropped them at the bus stop. We had no inkling of such a wicked act by this gang, who falsely claimed that, as a politician, I have sufficient funds to secure my daughter’s release.”
Expressing deep distress, he disclosed, “We’ve received threats warning us not to involve the police. But as a family, we are deeply distressed and have no choice but to seek help from law enforcement.”
Mr. Adereti, pleading for police presence at his residence for interim security, emphasized, “The situation has traumatised my family. I earnestly appeal for immediate intervention to bring these criminals to justice and ensure our safety.”
The family believes the kidnappers are seeking a ransom, putting their lives in jeopardy. As the investigation unfolds, the community anxiously awaits updates on the efforts to locate and secure the safe return of young Miracle Adereti Kolawole.
