Zelenskiy’s US trip a political, diplomatic failure – Russia
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s recent visit to Washington has been denounced by Russia’s Foreign Ministry as a complete political and diplomatic failure. In a statement published Saturday, spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized Zelenskiy’s conduct at the White House, claiming he is solely focused on perpetuating the conflict rather than seeking peace. She accused him of being an “unabashed cynic” whose main objective is to maintain power at all costs, alleging that in doing so he has destroyed opposition, built a totalitarian state, and ruthlessly sent millions of citizens to their deaths.
The meeting, which also involved US President Donald Trump, reportedly deepened the rift between Kyiv and its primary military supporter. Zelenskiy had intended the encounter to urge the United States to adopt a firmer stance against Russian President Vladimir Putin, openly challenging Trump over his comparatively softer approach. Kyiv has dismissed these allegations, maintaining that the meeting was an important opportunity to solidify US support.
