Zamfara APC Condemns Destruction of Matawalle’s Properties Amid Nationwide Protests
The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the recent looting of properties belonging to former governor Bello Matawalle during the nationwide protests. The party’s stance was detailed in a statement from their publicity secretary, Mallam Yusuf Idris Gusau, issued to the media in Gusau, the state capital.
According to the statement, the APC alleges that supporters of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) were responsible for orchestrating attacks against APC members and their properties. The party highlighted an attempted assault on Matawalle’s residence in Gusau, which was thwarted by security forces.
“This incident illustrates a troubling pattern of deliberate attacks on APC figures. On the first day of the protest, PDP-affiliated thugs targeted the residence of former governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle for destruction, but their efforts were halted by a swift security response,” said Gusau.
The APC also reported that thugs targeted the residence of Senator Sahabi Yau in Kaura Namoda, resulting in significant damage to his property. The party had previously warned of the potential for protests to be hijacked by criminals, a concern which has now materialized.
The APC called on security agencies to enhance protection for their members and all citizens, and urged the youth to resist being exploited by unscrupulous politicians. They stressed that the protests, which are a legitimate exercise of constitutional rights, should remain peaceful and free from violence.
The party commended the prompt actions of security personnel in mitigating the damage and ensuring public safety.
